Concert review of the premiere of "Upton Street Rag" by Carlos Cesar Rodriguez in DC Metro Theater Arts:
"The intermixing of classical music (shades of Bach!) and ragtime music made for such a joyous and euphoric musical memory that I wish it would linger in my mind and heart forever."
Profile in Washington Life Magazine:
"You know your career is on the rise when Yo-Yo Ma and Renee Fleming ask you to perform with them at the Kennedy Center."
Cover Story in the Syncopated Times:
"From the very first track one can hear Sam's studied familiarity with historic, classic ragtime compositions but also the new direction he's seeking."
Concert Review in the Washington Post: "Sam Post's Confident—Yet Equally Sensitive—Take on Bach's 'Goldberg'":
"Pianist Sam Post’s reading of the “Goldberg” at the Church of the Epiphany’s noonday concert Tuesday revealed a mind most comfortable with lucid structure and textural contrast but also, when the occasion called for it, a deeply felt romantic indulgence."
Sketches from Kazakhstan from San Francisco SoundBox in the Bay Area Reporter:
"The longest set, composer Sam Post's "Sketches from Kazakhstan," based on themes by late dombra player Karshyga Akhmedyarov rearranged for chamber orchestra, held the eager crowd's attention without strain. Akhmedyarov's daughter, SFS Violin since 2006 Raushan Akhmedyarova, was soloist in the flashy and tuneful piece. The "connections" were clear in the commissioning of Post's thrilling score, and the performance highlighted how closely allied folk-music traditions are between world nations. Synthesizing the legendary dombra master's themes into his own music, Post has created a breathtaking musical joy ride."
Dizzy Days Review in No Depression:
"Dizzy Days is dazzling in its knife-sharp precision and riveting craftsmanship. The title cut will surely build up all the excitement for ragtime buffs. The track is full of syncopation, interchanging tempos, and youthful exuberance. The melody has interchanging patterns that will create an ecstatic effect on its listeners. True to its title, the song will give you dizzy days because of its colorful and varied patterns. This track is excitement personified through music."
Dizzy Days makes legendary jazz historian and critic W. Royal Stokes' notable release list for 2017.
